Trip by Boat

From the modern Touristic Harbour of S. Maria Navarrese, with different kind of boats, you can visit all our coast full of cliffs which looks like a huge wall with a succession of beaches recognised as a jewel of the Mediterranean. The Cave’s Pigeons “ Grotta dei Colombi”, the inlet of Portu Pedrosu and Portu Cuau and the beaches of Cala Goloritzé, Cala dei Gabbiani and Cala Mariolu are going to take you in an unforgettable trip.
The discovery of the underwater siphon in the Fig’s Cave “Grotta del Fico”, last kingdom of the Monkseal are going to bring you back to the past. You will be visiting also the beaches of Biriala, Cala Sisine and Cala Luna up to the Ogliastra border.

The Fig’s Cave “La Grotta del Fico”

The access to the Fig’s Cave “Grotta del Fico” in located 7 meters above the sea level right in the Great Wall of the Orosei’s Gulf. Comfortable metal duckboard let you walk into a fossil bed of an ancient underground river by making you discover the mysterious cave.
The Hollows located in the beaches of Ispuligedenie and Biriala, are very important because all the siphon which are connected to the Sea, from where the Monkseal had access to go to the small beaches and reproduce itself.
Priest Antonio Furreddu dedicated his all life to the study of this mammiferous, he was one of the founder of a Speleological equipe named “ Speleologia Isolana”.
The most important research has been done in the 1947 right in the “Grotta del Fico”.

Supramonte Train

An alternative way to go to visit the Golgo’s Plateau with the expert guide, suitable for adults and children. The train start from Baunei to let you admire all the Wonders of the inland by staying sit in the comfortable wagons. You will be visiting the most deep Chasm in Europe name “Su Sterru”  ( 295 meters depth ), the country Church dedicates to Saint Peter, the old Folds of the Supramonte and also the “Stone Mask” ( weird result of the atmospheric agents in a vertical Wall ).

Free Climbing

If the Ogliastra is now one o the favourite destination of the Climbers of the entire World, we need to thanks to a group o people that back in the ’70 left the Alps to come here and start discover this part of Sardinia. Obviously, what makes the difference between the other places, is the interest that the local people start having on this special discipline.
The territory of Baunei seems be created specially for the Climbers. Walls and Cliffs founded everywhere. The famous Peak of Goloritzé is a calcareous Obelisk with an hight of 147 meters, it becomes the symbol of the Mediterranean Climbing in Europe and count already thousand of climb made from people from all over the World.
There are also been climbed others difficult Walls by the sea like Monte Ginnirco, Punta Giradili or Punta Argennas.
Most recently, Giampaolo Mocci started to equip the Gallic Village “Villaggio Gallico”, right on the road that goes to Pedra Longa, which became really popular in a very short time.
Maurizio Ovilglia in the 2003 continued to work in the “Villaggio Gallico” with the financial help of of the Town of Baunei creating also 2 new Cliff: Creuza de Ma and the Santa Maria Navarrese touristic Harbour.
